The popularity of crystals has skyrocketed this past year which has caused crystal sales to be at an all-time high. With more and more crystal shops popping up, customers aren’t doing their research before buying. Unfortunately, some crystal retailers will sell fake crystals or mislabel them, which is why as a buyer, you’re responsible for knowing what you’re buying. Clear quartz is a trendy beginner crystal, which is why it’s commonly fake. Some retailers will sell glass and call it clear quartz, so here are some tips and tricks that I use when I buy clear quartz to ensure that it’s real.
Does It Have Bubbles
Clear quartz should NEVER have bubbles in it; that is a clear sign that it’s made out of glass.

Test The Hardness
Clear quartz has a MOHS hardness of 7, which means it shouldn’t be able to scratch anything with a lower hardness scale. For example, a steel knife has a hardness of 6.5, try and produce a scratch on the item. If the clear quartz scratches the knife, this tells us that it isn’t real.

Is It Cold To The Touch
This one is super easy to spot. If you hold a crystal in your hand and it isn’t super cold, that’s an immediate red flag. You can also press the crystal to your cheek to feel it that way.
